Short description of the school
Lime House School is a co-educational, independent boarding and day school in the town of Carlisle, Cumbria in North West England. It accepts boys and girls from the ages of 7 to 18.
The school is set in a beautiful countryside estate about 7 miles south of Carlisle and on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park.
The School was founded in 1899 in Wetheral, a small village located five miles to the east of Carlisle. The school moved to its present location at Hawkesdale near the village of Dalston in 1946, and initially operated as a traditional prep school for boys up to the age of 13. Since 1998 Lime House School has been owned by Mr Nigel Rice, Headmaster from 1985 until his retirement in 2017, his wife Mrs Diane Rice, Senior Housemistress and Head of Learning Support and the Bursar, Ms Jackie Fisher. Under their combined ownership Lime House has flourished to become the unique school it is today, offering an exceptional academic education to all children within a stimulating and supportive atmosphere.
In September 2017 Mary Robertson-Barnett joined as the new Headteacher of Lime House School. A graduate of Oxford University, Mrs Robertson-Barnett, who has a wealth of experience in the educational and commercial environments both at home and abroad, brings to the school her passion for learning and her commitment to maintaining the deep-rooted Lime House tradition of ensuring that every single pupil has the opportunity to become the very best they can be.
